Army Careers Exhibition 2010

On Wednesday 16th June 4 members of staff and 34 students visited the Army Careers Exhibition at Catterick Army Barracks. The exhibition is the army’s opportunity to showcase it’s career opportunities and it gives the students and staff a chance to speak to the soldiers from many different areas about their experiences.

There were many activities for the students to participate in throughout the day, including zip wire, laser quest, an assault course, test drive army mini bikes and many others.

There was a display from the Royal Signals Motorcycle display team and The Parachute Regiment, Freefall Team 'The Red Devils’ team exited a Lynx helicopter and landed in the central arena.

Over 90 exhibition stands were around the arena with activities and information leaflets for the students to take away as well as soldiers on hand to answer any questions.

The students and staff had a fantastic day and the weather stayed sunny and dry. It was an enjoyable day and the students gained a good insight into the army and had lots of fun.

Specialist School Status
We were designated a Maths and Computing College in 2003. This has brought many benefits to the school including our new ICT suite – The ACE Centre. We are involved in many Maths and Computing based initiatives within school and we are also developing our work within the community. We take an active role in regional and national initiatives and are keen to share good practice with others. We are developing links overseas and have 2 partner schools in South Africa. Specialist School status has been an important development in our schools progress and is continuing to provide us with opportunities and challenges for students, staff and the whole school community
Teacher of The Year Awards
The Teacher of the Year Awards have been celebrating the dedication and inspiration of teachers in the UK since 1998.  This year Stocksbridge High School nominated Mr Jack Forrest, one of our science teachers, for the Outstanding New Teacher Award.  A group of Judges came to school and interviewed teachers, students and parents.  They were told of the wonderful work Mr Forrest does, how his teaching influences the learning of students and how he has helped teachers across the school.  The judges were clearly impressed. They agreed with us that Mr Forrest deserves an award and invited him to attend the Award Ceremony in Leeds.  Here he was awarded a Commendation, third place among all the many new teachers nominated from the north of England.  Congratulations and well done to Mr Forrest, we are very grateful for all the work you from the students and staff at Stocksbridge High School.
